75 per cent of motorists delay new car purchases until showrooms re-open

Over two thirds of motorists are waiting for showrooms to re-open before purchasing a new car according to a new web poll by Motorpoint.

The online survey on the Motorpoint website – www.motorpoint.co.uk – found 75 per cent of people were choosing to delay their purchasing decision until non-essential retail is allowed to reopen. Some 1,781 people took part in the study by the UK’s largest independent car retailer, which has a network of stores across England, Scotland and Wales.

The news comes as Motorpoint prepares to welcome back customers to its stores in England and Wales from April 12 onwards. All stores have been closed for the last three months due to the current COVID-19 lockdown. Motorpoint has already successfully re-opened its store in Scotland on Easter Monday.

Mark Carpenter, Chief Executive Officer of Motorpoint, said: “We are thrilled to be welcoming visitors into our stores in England and Wales once again. We have been incredibly busy over recent months supporting customers across the UK to buy online with our contactless Home Delivery and Reserve & Collect services, but nothing beats seeing your customers face to face and I know our teams in England and Wales can’t wait to once again be helping customers in person. We’ve had a really strong response from the public to our re-opening in Scotland on Easter Monday and we are looking forward to it being equally busy in-store in England and Wales when we fully re-open our branch network next week.”

Motorpoint currently stocks over 6,000 low mileage, nearly news cars and light commercial vehicles from 30 different manufacturers across its group, all of which have less than 30,000 miles.

Every vehicle is checked by experts from Motorpoint and comes with a minimum of three month’s warranty backed by the Motorpoint Price Promise. This means Motorpoint will refund the difference to any customer within seven days of their order if they find the same car cheaper from a competitor. As an added bonus, Motorpoint will also give the customer £50 worth of Amazon vouchers to spend.

Plus, as part of the company’s on-going COVID-19 safeguarding processes, all vehicle collections in England, Scotland and Wales will be completed in specially designated areas to always guarantee social distancing while an online portal means the car buying experience is completely paperless with customers able to sign for their new car using their mobile phone. Test drives in England and Wales will continue to be unaccompanied for the foreseeable future although test drives won’t be available in Scotland until April 26.

Motorpoint will continue to operate its free Home Delivery and Reserve & Collect services for customers from April 12 onwards. Over the past year Motorpoint staff have travelled the equivalent of almost four times round the world to deliver cars to customers’ doors on the UK mainland.
