Business as (new) normal: Volkswagen retailers demonstrate strong restart post lockdown

With the recent relaxation of the lockdown in Scotland the Volkswagen Retailer Network is now open to the public across the UK. And with a clear focus on contactless handovers, strict hygiene and careful social distancing measures, the highest standards of safety and protection can be expected by all who work at or visit a Volkswagen Retailer.

Volkswagen’s Retailer Network is operating several high-impact safety measures to ensure customers and employees can go about their business in as normal a fashion as possible, while using social distancing to minimise the risk posed by COVID-19. These measures include contactless handovers, including demonstrating features and controls, part exchange valuations and document signing, in addition to contact-free test drives, sales and consultations.

Key-drop stations with sanitisation, gloves for service advisors and the use of protective covers for seats, floor mats, steering wheels, gear levers and handbrakes all aid in keeping aftersales processes as safe and hygienic as possible. Interior and exterior handles and other touch points like seatbelts, keys and the car’s service book are cleaned with suitable products to protect both customer and technician.

Welcoming back customers to Volkswagen Retailers is an offer across the Network for both the all-new Golf 8 and Tiguan. Current Volkswagen Golf 7 and Tiguan customers with existing finance contracts can, if eligible, switch into a new model. Their upgrade cost will be partially covered by Volkswagen, up to a maximum of £2,100. Customers can also take advantage of a ‘three months on us’ offer for retail customers purchasing a new vehicle on finance. The brand will cover the first three months’ worth of payments on vehicles purchased on a Solutions Personal Contract Plan.

After the first full month of showrooms being reopen across England, and just over two weeks in Scotland, SMMT new-car registration data reveals Volkswagen remains the number two brand in the UK year-to-date with a 9.02% market share. The brand also saw two models in the top 10 best sellers for the month of June, with the Golf and the Tiguan.

Andrew Savvas, Managing Director of Volkswagen UK, said: “We’re immensely pleased with the response from customers to the re-opening of our retailers – the public’s desire for dependable cars has not waned. Demand for our latest product, the Golf 8, is already high and growing fast. We’re also seeing huge interest in future models, such as the recently unveiled Arteon Shooting Brake and new Tiguan.

As ever the safety of our customers and staff is always our number one priority, and the feedback we have received recognising these measures in-place within our retailer network is very encouraging.”
