Caught in the act: huge rise in use of dash cam footage reported

The use of dash cam footage following car accidents has risen by a staggering 285% since 2015 according to research by Accident Exchange.

Cementing itself as a vital piece of technology for motorists and the industry, the analysis reveals the extent to which motorists are adopting the new technology.

The spike in use of dash cam footage after an accident has resulted in fewer disputes while speeding up claims processes.

The figures illustrate that claims are nearly three times more likely to feature dash cam footage amongst supporting evidence compared to just two years ago, highlighting the importance of the in-car accessory to motorists and the industry.

The analysis follows a report in 2015 which revealed a startling 918%* rise in dash cam sales in just a year, suggesting that awareness and acceptance of the technology among motorists is growing fast.

As Accident Exchange and insurers strive to make the claims process less stressful, the rise in the use of dash cams will come as welcome news to many drivers.

Scott Hamilton-Cooper, Director of Operations & Sales at Accident Exchange, commented: “For many, the post-accident experience is one of the most stressful elements of car ownership, and it benefits everyone – motorists, accident management firms and insurers – to make it simple, stress-free and to limit unnecessary claims disputes. The fact it brings even more transparency to the process is great for us and our customers.”

Accident Exchange’s accident aftercare services support motorists following an accident to make the process as clear and stress-free as possible, handling everything from the initial call, providing a temporary replacement vehicle and organising vehicle repairs, until the claim is settled.

The study examined tens of thousands of accidents recorded by Accident Exchange between January 2015 and July 2017.
