CUPRA Born takes home EV trophy at What Car? Awards 2022

The CUPRA Born has taken home one of the most coveted awards at the What Car? Awards 2022 after it was named Best Small Electric Car of the Year.

The electric car category win is a first for CUPRA, as Born, which is available to order now, is the brand’s first all-electric car with first deliveries in Spring 2022.

Designed and developed in Barcelona, CUPRA’s EV came out on top against some noteworthy competition in a year where electric vehicles have thrived and become more popular than ever.

Born was recognised for its impressive handling characteristics, high quality interior and dynamic powertrain.

Steve Huntingford, Editor at What Car? commented“Choosing a CUPRA typically means a big focus on driver appeal, and the Born absolutely delivers, because it feels more eager to turn into bends than rivals. Despite this, though, the ride is far from harsh and road noise is kept to a minimum, while the interior is smartly finished and impressively spacious. So, the Born proves that turning your back on petrol doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice fun, but it’s also a fantastic all-rounder.”

CUPRA Born’s range of technology is designed to enhance the safety and comfort of the driver and passengers. Features include full LED exterior lighting, a 12-inch infotainment system, Predictive Adaptive Cruise Control, augmented reality head-up display, Dynamic Chassis Control and dynamic road sign display.

CUPRA also secured the Best Coupe SUV category with the Formentor. The SUV was the first model to be designed and developed exclusively as a CUPRA after the launch of the brand in 2018.

On Formentor’s win, Huntingford added: “Not everyone with sporty sensibilities can avoid journeys that demand four doors, adult-friendly back seats and a big boot. That’s where the combination of style, performance and practicality that coupé SUVs offer comes in – and the CUPRA Formentor is our favourite, because it delivers a better combination of pace and handling than rivals while also treating your passengers to a more comfortable ride.”

Across all powertrains and trim levels, the Formentor is acknowledged for its comfortable interior, driving dynamics and top-of-the-line technology, all of which have led the car to victory this year.

The CUPRA Formentor is available with one of seven different powertrains, ranging from the 1.5 TSI EVO 150PS, through to the 2.0 TSI 4Drive DSG-auto 310PS. It is also available as a 1.4 e-HYBRID (either 204PS or 245PS) that comes with a DSG-auto gearbox.
