The Department for Transport have announced that their 4-1-1 MOT Consultation has been extended, with the closing date now set to be 22 March 2023.
Sue Robinson, Chief Executive of the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA) which represents car and commercial retailers in the UK commented:
“NFDA is pleased that its efforts to extend the consultation period, through discussions with DVSA and writing directly to DfT officials have been successful.
DfT’s decision to extend the MOT consultation from the initial 6 weeks period to 9 weeks is welcomed. By elongating the consultation period it gives the industry more time to gather widespread information and crucial evidence from retailers to oppose the proposed changes to MOT’s.
“As of now, NFDA has surveyed its members, have been in regular communication with the relevant industry contacts and are now in the process of finalising our position on behalf of the industry.
“Additionally, the extension to the consultation period allows the NFDA to have more time to discuss with our members and European counterparts to obtain insight and knowledge regarding their MOT testing policies, cross referencing this with ours and building on our evidence to counteract these proposed changes from government.
“If you have not done so already, please sign the industry backed petition, supported by the likes of Independent Garage Association (IGA), National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA), the Garage Equipment Association (GEA), the Scottish Motor Trade Association (SMTA) and the National Tyre Distributors Association (NTDA).”
