Kia UK sales bounce back in first half of 2021

Kia UK Limited has posted its best-ever first-half market share, accounting for 5 per cent of total UK registrations through the first six months of 2021.

The brand registered 9,176 units in June and 45,277 units throughout the first half of the year – Kia’s second highest half-year sales in the UK. Fully electric vehicles have made up 14 per cent of this total, with 6,497 units registered so far this year.

Paul Philpott, President and CEO of Kia UK Limited, commented: “After a challenging 2020, the first half of 2021 has seen our sales bounce back to near pre-pandemic levels – and our market share grow to a new all-time high. Our UK-wide dealer network has been key to this success, adapting to offer customers a range of options for completing their purchase, remotely or face-to-face.

“At this mid-year point, there is a greater sense of optimism in the market than in 2020. We’ve built a good foundation from which to tackle the second half of the year and we have an exciting few months ahead as we introduce the Kia EV6 to market.”

The Sportage remains the company’s number-one best-seller in the UK, with 16,310 units registered so far this year. The Sportage is also the seventh best-selling vehicle in the UK through the first half of 2021.

The Niro family – comprising Self-Charging Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid powertrains, and the fully electric e-Niro – is the brand’s second best-seller, with 11,659 units sold. The Kia Picanto (5,527 units) and Ceed model family (5,471 units) have also remained incredibly popular among UK buyers this year.
