NCP parks diesel vehicles in favour of all-electric Alphabet fleet

National Car Parks (NCP) is the largest private car park operator in the UK, with 200,000 spaces in over 520 sites across the country. The business strives to be socially and ethically responsible in its operations, having secured 100% of its electricity from green sources since 2010.

NCP was looking for a new fleet funding and management provider to consolidate its operations and help save costs and time. It was also eager to find a leasing partner that could effectively and seamlessly support its green ambitions of moving towards a pure electric vehicle (EV) and plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) fleet.

Alphabet proved the perfect partner and is providing NCP with full Contract Hire and Maintenance across its fleet of nearly 105 company cars and 107 lcvs, including Accident Management and alpharent services. With the stable backing of a consultative partner like Alphabet, NCP has managed to migrate its fleet choice list from solely diesel vehicles to a range of evs and phevs, creating cost savings and supporting the business’ wider environmental initiatives.

These savings have largely been achieved by introducing NCP to a Whole Life Cost (WLC) model to take advantage of the reduction in tax contribution when choosing evs and phevs. Not only has this brought about benefits to the business, but it also effectively gives its employees a pay rise, who can now save thousands of pounds over the course of their vehicle contract, via the Benefit-in-Kind (BIK) tax relief and other factors.

One of the biggest challenges faced by NCP with its previous fleet provider was invoice management and processing. Prior to Alphabet, NCP’s provider used up to five different funders, meaning NCP was often tasked with gathering invoices from five different places at once – an extremely time consuming and inefficient process. Alphabet is now helping to pull this together under ‘one roof’, providing NCP with just one point of contact for all its fleet services. This has meant a vast reduction in time spent on administration (est. -77%), freeing up vital resource and enabling business operations to run more smoothly.

Antony Wooller, Fleet Coordinator at National Car Parks Ltd. Says: “Partnering with Alphabet has already paid dividends for NCP, saving the business considerable time in unnecessary admin, and the costs that go alongside that. Our drivers are thrilled with the new options available to them on our updated choice list and particularly the tax reductions they’re now able to enjoy by lowering their emissions. Looking ahead to the next couple years, we’re excited to work with Alphabet to migrate to a fully electrified fleet across the whole NCP business as current vehicle contracts expire.”

Dermot Kehoe, Corporate Sales Manager at Alphabet (GB) says: “It’s great to be working with NCP to support them on their journey towards electrification. With one of the business’ biggest grievances being around excessive admin processing, we wanted to find a solution that worked smarter not harder to free up their time. We’re thrilled to have already set the wheels in motion in this area for NCP and are looking forward to identifying further efficiencies and continuing to build a strong partnership, as the business drives towards its impressive zero-emission targets.”
