NFDA welcomes ford scrappage scheme

“The NFDA welcomes the decision by Ford to launch an incentive for UK consumers to trade in cars over seven years old. We believe that motorists who had previously purchased high emission vehicles must not be penalised by the Clean Air Strategy. We call for a consistent and well thought-through approach by the Government to ensure consumers and businesses are able to cope with the transition”, Sue Robinson, Director of the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA), which represents franchised car and commercial vehicle dealers.

Ford has launched a scrappage scheme covering all makes of cars and vans registered before the end of 2009, this includes all pre Euro 5 vehicles. Unlike different schemes previously announced by other manufacturers, which were only for diesel vehicles, the scheme launched by Ford will cover both petrol and diesel vehicles.

Under this scheme, which will run from 1 September until the end of the year, consumers will receive up to £2,000 off the price of new Ford models, both cars or vans, ranging in price from about £12,000 to more than £20,000. Ford said that by combining the scrappage incentive with other offers, customers could receive “up to £4,000 off a car or £7,000 off the cost of a van”.
