PEUGEOT increases 2020 UK market share despite difficult trading year

PEUGEOT has increased its UK new car and van market share from 4.33% in 2019 to 4.38% in 2020, according to the latest registration figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). PEUGEOT’s Low Emissions Vehicles (LEVs) now account for 11.20% of the brand’s total sales.

The market share increase comes despite difficult trading conditions in 2020, caused by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, which saw UK retailers closed for several months throughout the year. Of particular note, is PEUGEOT’s achievement of 5% market share in the 4th quarter of 2020. According to the SMMT, the UK new car market declined by 29.4% compared to 2019.

In 2020, PEUGEOT invested into new online platforms to help consumers during the difficult period. A new Virtual Showroom allows buyers to organise live, online one-on-one tours with a product expert around a vehicle they are interested in. The new PEUGEOT BUY Online allows buyers to configure, finance and order their new car, with safe home deliveries available.

The award winning, fully electric e-208, as well as the launch of the all-new e-2008 and 3008 HYBRID models, helped PEUGEOT achieve an LEV sales mix of 11.20% for the year. By 2023, PEUGEOT will offer an electrified variant across its entire mode line-up, providing customers with the power of choice for the range.

Simon Bisp, Sales Director, PEUGEOT UK, said: “Last year was an incredibly difficult year for everyone, not just the car industry. While the latest SMMT figures show the sector in decline, I’m positive about PEUGEOT being able to grow its market share under such difficult trading conditions.

“This comes down to two factors. The first is our growing line-up of award-winning vehicles, which continue to attract new and existing buyers. Our investment into online infrastructure and digital technologies has also helped maintain sales and relations with customers despite several months of showroom closures.

“I am immensely proud of the professionalism and commitment shown by our Retailer Network in providing a safe Sales and Aftersales environment for both colleagues and customers during 2020. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues in 2021 the entire PEUGEOT team remain committed to allowing both new and existing customers to interact safely with the brand.”
