Over the last couple of weeks I have been lucky enough to have the opportunity to get out and about in the Lake District; it’s been a most welcome change to the restrictions experienced by most of us under the recently lifted lockdown rules. With the fabulous weather we have experienced recently the most noticeable impact on the roads has been the abundant growth of roadside vegetation, the majority of the roads I have recently driven on in the Lakes have masses of foliage creeping both onto the roads and covering road signs. This thick vegetation has hidden unfamiliar road signs behind trees and bushes of all varieties; these hidden road sign are both an obvious nuisance and at times can be very dangerous.
GEM Motoring Assist have this week produced a report that highlights how unmaintained hedges and vegetation is a growing menace that puts road users at risk, they are also encouraging drivers to report the problem to the appropriate local authority along with ways of reducing the risk obscured signs may cause.
