The direction of the automotive industry and transport is changing direction rapidly since lockdown; the commitment by Governments across the world is broadly welcomed with drivers themselves eager to make fundamental changes to how they choose to commute both now and in the future. The Prime Minister’s £2 billion cycling initiative announced this week will encourage local councils to now get on with building dedicated cycle routes encouraging more active travel in town centres. As  a third of drivers said they would cycle, walk or run more after lockdown these proposals should be broadly welcomed to improve safety for all road users.

One town in France this week with the help of Renault has taken the green transport revolution one step further by creating the first 100% electric town, every household in the town of Appy in the Ariege region of France has been given a New ZOE to experience for three years in a pioneering new scheme to prove electric mobility can be suitable for all. With the electric vehicle market tripling in the first quarter of 2020, this might well be the perfect time for us all to look at how we play our part in this automotive revolution.
