Two extremes of the automotive used car market both saw unexpected sales performance growth during the 2020 pandemic. Both owners of small cars and classic cars experienced a surge in demand with a number of classic cars outperforming the UK market.

Drivers clambered to offload their small cars for cash during 2020, as the pandemic caused lockdowns across the UK during 2020 there was a huge demand for drivers wanting to cash in on surplus cars that were sat on the driveway gathering dust. Looking at the classic car market Hagerty have identified 10 cars that outperformed the market at UK auctions throughout 2020, with some cars wildly outperforming not just their auction estimates but also the Hagerty Price Guide value. History, provenance, and specification, plus buyer enthusiasm, can push certain cars to unexpected heights, helping this year’s top outperformer, a 1972 Bentley Corniche which managed to exceed the HPG value by 155%.
