According to a report by AX (the accident aftercare provider) released this week, road traffic has returned to normal having plummeted to the equivalent of 1960s levels in April last year and 1980s levels this January. AX analysed nearly 250 million miles of its recorded driving data since January 2020, revealing a drastic reduction in traffic levels throughout the pandemic, as well as significant changes to the types of collisions taking place during the various lockdowns.

The report highlights some interesting trends during lockdown, being ‘hit whilst parked’ accounted for as many as half of the claims managed by AX during the lockdowns, while the number of rear end collisions plummeted. With road traffic now back to pre-COVID levels following the easing of most social distancing restrictions we can expect rear end collisions to once again sore. More…
