YourParkingSpace.co.uk branches out with green initiative

Online parking portal YourParkingSpace.co.uk is planting a tree for every monthly booking on its website.

It follows successful involvement in Earth Day when it pledged to plant a tree for all bookings that were made on that day, including daily and monthly bookings, resulting in nearly 3,500 trees taking root via Trees for the Future.

And now almost 10,000 trees have been planted since the launch of the monthly booking initiative, offsetting the carbon generated by approximately 900,000 miles of driving.

Meanwhile, YourParkingSpace.co.uk research also discovered that its customers saved a combined total of 132 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) – the equivalent amount that would be made burning 53 tonnes of coal – by driving straight to their reserved parking space over the last year.

Harrison Woods, managing director at YourParkingSpace.co.uk, said: “The successful involvement of YourParkingSpace.co.uk in Earth Day has provided further inspiration to help plant more trees by pledging one tree for every monthly booking received. I hope it won’t be long before we’ve helped plant enough trees to grow a forest and help offset the carbon generated by driving.

“Green-thinking motorists can also help save the planet by pre-booking a parking space, rather than driving around trying to find an empty spot as this reduces CO2 emissions.”

YourParkingSpace.co.uk also found that it recorded a 34 per cent increase in driveway and empty parking space owners near to the ULEZ registering on its website following the introduction of the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) in London. Bookings for driveways also rose on the outskirts of the capital.

Other cities across the UK are also planning various clean air zones including Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Dundee in Scotland, plus Bath, Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds in England, to name a few.

Harrison added: “Parking on a pre-booked rented driveway or empty space is often cheaper than opting to pay on the day using a ticket machine, with the extra advantage that it has an environmental benefit.”
