Nissan is pleased to announce that the all-new electrified Nissan Qashqai has received its first accolade from the Caravan and Motorhome Club in the Towcar of the Year Awards 2022.
Recently surpassing 15,000 orders in the UK, the Nissan Qashqai Tekna+ Xtronic version was named overall winner of the Caravan Weight 1300-1400kg category.
The judges praised the Qashqai’s performance in the competition, saying it made a “good all-round towcar, doing everything wellâ€, and would make a “sound purchase†for any customer.
The awards were announced at the Caravan and Motorhome Club Towcar of the Year Awards 2022 ceremony, held at the Royal Automobile Club in London.
Andrew Humberstone, Managing Director, Nissan Motor (GB) Ltd., commented; “Designed, engineered and built in the UK, the Qashqai has rewarded millions of customers with desirable, dependable and practical mobility. It supports a huge variety of lifestyle demands, including those who need accomplished towing capability.
“We are delighted that the all-new Nissan Qashqai has already been recognised in the prestigious Towcar of the Year Awards, just a few short months since the car went on sale.â€
Nick Lomas, Director General of the Caravan and Motorhome Club said, “With the rise in popularity of the staycation, it’s more important than ever that the Club continues to provide qualified and unbiased information for its one million members to help them to find the right towcar for their needs. We’ve also been receiving an increasing number of enquiries about the technicalities and practicalities of towing with hybrid and electric vehicles so it’s fantastic news we are seeing a boom in competition entrants and winners in these categories.â€
Each car was put through its paces at Millbrook Proving Ground near Bedford. The Club’s scrutiny team thoroughly checked each vehicle before handing it over to the ‘caravanability’ and driving judges.
Like its predecessors, the styling of the third-generation Nissan Qashqai was led by the team at Nissan Design Europe, based in central London, while its engineering was led by Nissan Technical Centre Europe, situated in Cranfield, Bedfordshire. It continues to be produced in Nissan’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear.
In 2022, the Qashqai’s electrified powertrain line-up will be expanded with the addition of Nissan’s unique e-POWER system, where a petrol engine is used solely to generate electricity, whilst the wheels are completely driven by an electric motor. This unique solution combines the enjoyable, seamless linear acceleration characteristic of an EV, but without the need for charging.
The Caravan and Motorhome Club represents the interests of over one million caravan, motorhome and trailer tent owners across the UK. For more information about the Caravan and Motorhome Club’s Towcar of the Year competition please visit https://www.camc.com/towcar/
