BCA Pulse – rising volumes matched by increased demand

BCA’s Pulse Report shows that, as in previous years, average used car values returned to more typical levels in January, following on from the seasonally affected values recorded during December 2018.  Volumes at BCA rose significantly in January 2019 and have remained high into February, with strong buyer demand supporting BCA’s nationwide sales programme.

The BCA headline figure of £9,476 in January 2019 represented an increase of £178 year-on-year, equivalent to a 1.9% improvement despite both average age and mileage rising over the period.  The increased values reflect both the richer mix of cars available at BCA over the past 12 months and the substantial levels of demand experienced this January.  Fleet & lease and Dealer P/X values increased by 8.9% and 8.7% respectively, while nearly-new values were up by 16.7%.

Stuart Pearson BCA COO UK Remarketing commented “January was a strong month across BCA’s network with rising volumes and strong buyer engagement across the network.  The used car sector has started the year strongly, with competitive bidding across the board from high value prestige stock to older, higher mileage budget vehicles.  Live Online volumes continue to rise, with certain sales attracting exceptionally high numbers of bidders – a prestige car sale at BCA Nottingham mid-January saw nearly three-quarters of the entry purchased by online buyers.”

Pearson added: “BCA customers also benefitted from the launch of our new Buyer app that is streamlining the buying process to ensure that they never miss a vehicle.  The BCA Buyer app offers mobile access to the largest range of used vehicles in the UK with the ability to search and track stock in real-time.  The launch of the new app marks a busy 2019 for BCA that will see a wave of innovation that will make it easier than ever to buy with BCA.”

Pearson added “January 2019 values followed the pattern seen in previous years and BCA expects to see strong and sustained demand as we approach the March plate change.  We are delivering an enhanced sales program across our nationwide network to support this.
