Best Open Top Car honour for the Lexus LC convertible in the UK Car of the Year Awards

The Lexus LC 500 Convertible has won its second major award in less than a week, honoured as the Best Open Top in the UK Car of the Year Awards 2021.

This success follows the international Best Luxury Car accolade it received in the recently announced Women’s World Car of the Year Awards.

The UK Car of the Year Awards are judged by a panel comprising some of the country’s most experienced and respected motoring journalists. By winning its category, the LC Convertible is now under consideration for the overall Car of the Year award, which will be announced on 9 March.

Among the judges for this year’s awards, Matt Robinson commented: “The feel-good factor of driving a car which looks astounding, sounds terrific and should be as reliable as a Swiss watch, cannot be underestimated.”

Tom Ford declared it to be “one of the best-looking convertibles – ever” and Alisdair Suttie added his high opinion of the design, stating: “You only need to look at the LC to know it’s ‘job done’ – it’s stunning.”

Ewan Shepherd, Director of Lexus in the UK, said: “The LC Convertible was conceived from the outset to be the most beautiful car in its class, but as this award testifies, it does much more than simply look good. It is a great car to drive and it captures the essence of Lexus luxury and the amazing experiences we want to give our customers.”

Launched in the UK in 2020, the LC Convertible was designed to look equally beautiful with the roof up or down, applying Lexus’s famous attention to detail in areas such as the folding top mechanism to achieve the ideal lines without compromising cabin comfort or load space. It also delivers Lexus’s “exhilarating performance,” thanks to its naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 engine and 10-speed Direct Shift automatic transmission. Acceleration from 0-62mph can be accomplished in just five seconds, while precise aerodynamic styling prevents any uncomfortable wind buffeting when travelling at speed. The cabin is beautifully appointed, finished in high-quality materials throughout and reflecting Lexus’s human-centred philosophy in its design, comfort and multi-sensory appeal.
