Brits save millions by parking on rented driveways

Motorists parking on rented driveways saved almost four million pounds in 2017 compared to opting for traditional car parks where you pay on the day.

The new research by on-line parking portal yourparkingspace.co.uk reveals that thousands of savvy car owners are turning their backs on traditional parking and going for the cheaper, and usually, more convenient option of booking a driveway or empty space in advance.

It also comes as recent news shows that millions of motorists in England face the prospect of paying more for parking as many councils look to cover budget shortfalls.

Harrison Woods, managing director at yourparkingspace.co.uk, said: “More-and-more motorists are saving significant amounts on parking charges by choosing driveways and empty spaces, which includes parking at hotels, off-street spaces and secure garages.

“Our figures show that nearly four million pounds was saved by canny car owners in 2017 who discovered that pre-booking a space with yourparkingspace.co.uk can save them time and a substantial amount of money, rather than driving up and paying on the day at a traditional car park.”

Further analysis shows that motorists have saved a staggering £6 million with yourparkingspace.co.uk since 2014.

Yet it’s not just motorists who are benefitting from the driveway parking phenomenon as property owners made £12 million with yourparkingspace.co.uk last year by offering their driveways and empty spaces for people to park their vehicles.

Spaces in particular demand include those near railway stations, local amenities, airports, sports and music venues, plus town and city centres.

Harrison added: “It’s fantastic that countless motorists are saving money by booking a driveway to park on, whether it’s just for a few hours or a number of days. As well as being cheaper, pre-booking a parking space also takes the stress out of looking for somewhere to leave the car if left to the last minute.”
