Family pet among top 10 items accidentally left behind by customers part-exchanging cars at Motorpoint

A family pet was just one of the more unusual items accidentally left behind by customers in their eagerness to drive away in their new car from Motorpoint.

The new research by Motorpoint, the UK’s largest independent car retailer, comes on the back of a huge influx of part-exchange vehicles at its network of branches in England, Scotland and Wales following the successful return of non-essential retail.

With customers flocking to branches in record numbers to buy low mileage, nearly new vehicles available from over 30 different manufacturers, Motorpoint has been equally busy processing thousands of part exchange vehicles for its sister company Auction4Cars.

And, in their excitement to driveaway in their new vehicle as quickly as possible, a number of customers have inadvertently forgotten to empty their old vehicle of some of their most prized possessions.

While these have included the usual suspects such as house keys, parking permits, sunglasses, debit and credit cards as well as money and phone chargers, a number of more ‘unusual’ items have been left behind for staff to try and re-unite with their owners.

Nikki Bamford, Head of Customer Services at Motorpoint, explained: “We are all guilty of leaving things behind when we are in a rush, such as our phones, wallets and keys, so it’s certainly only natural that our customers do the same in the midst of their excitement and eagerness to drive away in their new car.

“We have however been left a little bit taken aback with some of the strange things that have been left in some of our customers old cars. Thankfully, we’ve been able to re-unite most items with their rightful, and in the case of the dog, relieved owners.”

Motorpoint currently has over 6,000 low mileage, nearly new cars and light commercial vehicles available from over 30 different manufacturers. Every vehicle comes with the balance of manufacturer’s warranty backed by the Motorpoint Price Promise. This means Motorpoint will refund the difference to any customer within seven days of their order if they find the same car cheaper from a competitor. As a bonus, it will also give the customer £50 worth of Amazon vouchers to spend.

Plus, as part of the company’s on-going COVID-19 safeguarding processes, all vehicle collections in England, Scotland and Wales will be completed in specially designated areas to always guarantee social distancing while an online portal means the car buying experience is completely paperless with customers able to sign for their new car using their mobile phone. Furthermore, every purchase, whether it is instore or online, is backed by a 14-day money back guarantee.
