Lexus RX takes top honours in The Car Expert awards

The Lexus RX large luxury SUV has collected another honour, being named the Best Large SUV in The Car Expert Awards 2024. Its success comes hard on the heels of having won the best premium car title in the Scottish Car of the Year awards.

Stuart Masson, Editorial Director at The Car Expert, said: “If you’re looking for a large SUV and you prefer luxurious comfort to the usual heavy-handed brutalism, the Lexus RX is for you. It’s beautifully built and well equipped, which we’ve come to expect from Lexus, with impressive technology and delightful details throughout the cabin. To top it off, the regular hybrid or plug-in hybrid engine options combine silent urban running with plenty of long-range capability and better-than-expected fuel economy.”

The RX is the flagship SUV in the Lexus range and firmly established as a core model for the company with more than 3.5 million sales worldwide since the introduction of the first generation in 1998. Launched in February 2023, the current, fifth generation model is offered with a choice of three electrified powertrains: the self-charging hybrid electric RX 350h; the plug-in hybrid electric RX 450h+; and the performance hybrid electric RX 500h give Lexus its most comprehensive coverage yet of the D/E premium SUV market.

Lexus developed its new Next Chapter design language for the RX, including a new ‘spindle body, achieved by integrating the signature spindle grille concept into the entire front of the vehicle. Inside, the driver-centred tazuna cockpit focuses on giving the driver direct, intuitive control of the vehicle, following the principle of ‘hands on the wheel, eyes on the road’. It also improves the driving experience, with its intuitive and clean layout, enhanced by the new Lexus Link Pro multimedia system with voice assistant, a 14-inch touchscreen and remote functions that can be accessed using the Lexus Link smartphone app.

To craft the new RX’s Lexus Driving Signature, Lexus optimised the SUV’s fundamentals such as the centre of gravity, inertia specifications, weight reduction, rigidity, and powertrain to create a more natural dialogue between car and driver. The improved handling and responsiveness are founded on a development of Lexus’s GA-K platform that delivers excellent body rigidity and a low centre of gravity.
