Mazda takes best car for dog owners at the 2019 Auto Trader New Car Awards

Mazda has been announced as a double winner in the 2019 Auto Trader New Car Awards. Unlike other automotive awards which rely on editorial judging panels, the Auto Trader titles are decided by 63,000 real car owners who are asked to rate their cars across 16 key criteria, as well as overall satisfaction.

Walking away with the Best Car for Dog Owners title, the Mazda CX-5 ticked the boxes of canine loving car drivers thanks to its combination of practicality and quality. Owners praised the Mazda SUV for cabin space, safety and how good it is to drive. When transporting a precious four legged cargo, the 2019 Mazda CX-5 can be equipped with an official Mazda dog guard for £183.55 including fitting, while for ultimate protection against muddy paws the official boot mat and bumper protector is £52.94.

And while dogs are famously man’s best friend, the Auto Trader Awards highlighted motorists love for the MX-5, with the Mazda MX-5 RF being named Most Loved Car. In its 30th year the Mazda MX-5 continues to win over drivers with its combination of affordability, driver engagement and style. With the 2019 Mazda MX-5 benefiting from a host of updates, including the 2.0-litre Skyactiv-G engine getting a power increase to 184ps, Mazda’s world famous sports car heads into its third decade stronger than ever.

Commenting on the awards, Erin Baker, Auto Trader’s Editorial Director said: “Mazda should be particularly proud taking home two awards. Lots of us have emotional connections with cars; they’re more than just a way of getting from A to B. The Mazda MX-5 RF is loved for a whole host of reasons, not least because of the way it drives and how it looks. While for dog owners, space and how easy it is to make use of that space is crucial and owners were quick to point out the CX-5’s comfort”.

Collecting the Auto Trader Awards, Mazda Motors UK Managing Director, Jeremy Thomson said: “it’s always great to collect awards but they are particularly pleasing when they are a result of recognition from our customers. The MX-5 has always been the very epitome of the good to drive ethos that sits at the heart of every Mazda, so it’s great to see the MX-5 RF win such an emotive category as Most Loved Car. I’m also delighted that the CX-5‘s excellent family car credentials extend to the furry friends at the heart of many households”.
