Records tumble as MG reaches new heights with 2019 sales performance

MG Motor UK secured its best-ever month of sales for December and, in turn, achieved a record-breaking full year of sales. For December, MG sold 1,702 cars, representing an incredible 162% increase versus the same month in 2018. Furthermore, MG’s outstanding performance ensured it moved beyond a 1% market share in a single month, with a 1.14% share for December 2019.

Overall, total sales for 2019 were 13,075 units, meaning a 45% uplift in registrations compared with the same 12-month period the year before. With more customers choosing MG for its unrivalled value-for-money offering, the brand posted its 26th consecutive month of volume and share growth in the process.

MG’s record-breaking sales performance in 2019 was driven by the practical and stylish ZS SUV alongside the vibrant MG3 hatchback, which achieved 8,136 and 3,820 annual registrations respectively.

Sales performance was boosted significantly thanks to the arrival of the brand’s first-ever fully electric model – the MG ZS EV – which is leading the way in bringing affordable, zero-emissions transport to car-buying families throughout the UK. Already boasting a strong orderbook, MG delivered 659 MG ZS EVs to customers in 2019. This represents a 5% mix of MG’s total volume which is over three times the industry’s EV mix which reached 1.6% in 2019.

Daniel Gregorious, Head of Sales & Marketing at MG Motor UK, said: “Last year was a memorable one for the brand with a number of major milestones. Not only did we reach 100 dealers, but also surpassed five-figures in sales and introduced our first-ever electric model to drivers nationwide. Our mid-term Momentum & Growth plan will enable us to build on this fantastic foundation as further growth is forecast in 2020 and we work towards achieving 30,000 sales by 2021.

“Our dealer network is growing strongly and we currently have 20 new partners in the pipeline and ready to go live within the next few months, taking us to 120 sites by the middle of 2020. We also still have some key open points including Bristol, Plymouth, Liverpool, Leeds and Aberdeen, and we’re keen to speak with ambitious dealers who want to be part of our exciting story. Our dealers are busier than ever and we will launch some great new cars this year including our second fully electric car as well as a C-SUV plug-in hybrid. This further enforces the brand’s bold ambition to be synonymous with truly affordable, practical and fully electric family cars.”

MG’s growing range comprises the MG3 hatchback and the ultra-practical and popular ZS SUV, alongside the fully-electric ZS EV and flagship MG HS SUV, both having recently been awarded Five Star Euro NCAP ratings. All of MG’s models are covered by the brand’s famous and fully transferrable 7 Year Warranty for ultimate peace of mind.
