Royals among celebrities most trusted to recommend a car – but it’s ‘no deal’ for Boris

British car buyers look for the ‘royal treatment’ during the car-buying process, according to CarGurus research, with the royal family among the most trusted ‘celebrities’ to recommend a used car.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were the most trusted members of the royal family, with one in 10 British car-buyers backing their used car advice to get them a good deal.

Prince William and Kate Middleton even managed to pip The Queen, as well as The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, to be named the most trusted royals when it comes to cars, despite Her Majesty having trained and worked as a mechanic during World War II.

Overall, David Attenborough topped the poll, with nearly a quarter of British car buyers saying the iconic broadcaster would be trusted to get them a good used car deal, even though the 93-year old has never passed his driving test.

CarGurus, the fastest-growing automotive shopping site in the UK among its nearest competitors* which was founded by TripAdvisor co-founder Langley Steinert, surveyed more than 2,000 car owners and buyers to find which celebrities they would trust the most when buying a used car.

Politicians fared less well than the royal family and other celebrities, with those surveyed agreeing that figures including David Beckham, Judi Dench and Adele were more dependable when it comes to car advice than the country’s political leaders.

While a meagre one in 20 would trust Boris Johnson to get them a good deal on a used car, the Prime Minister’s brief history as a car reviewer for the likes of GQ might have helped him narrowly beat political rivals Jeremy Corbyn and Nigel Farage.

“We use technology to help provide this trust and transparency to consumers, whether it’s through the use of pricing data, dealer reviews or our ever-expanding library of buying guides and videos.”
