Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has claimed four prestigious titles in the inaugural What Car? Van Awards, with the Caddy, Transporter, and Crafter all honoured with accolades.
The titles included Best Overall Van and Best to Drive in the Large Van category for the Volkswagen Crafter. The Volkswagen Transporter 6.1 was awarded Best Value for Ownership Costs and the new Caddy which will go on sales in December received the Best Technology Advance title.
The judges commended the Volkswagen Crafter for its functionality, comfort and intelligent design. Praising its electromechanical steering, agile drive and customisable design, the Volkswagen Crafter was named ‘the complete van’.
The Volkswagen Transporter 6.1 scooped Best Value for Ownership Costs in the Medium Van category. The panel van was recognised for its unbeatable design and low running costs during its lifetime.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ new fifth-generation Caddy was also honoured at the awards with the Best Technology Advance title, noted as “one of the smartest vehicles on the roadâ€. It was selected ahead of its rivals for its connectivity with the integrated eSIM and We Connect app. The Caddy was also recommended for its array of active safety systems and the introduction of automatic breakdown calls and anti-theft alerts.
First revealed in February, the new Caddy has been redesigned from the ground up with increased space, four efficient engine options and five additional driver assistance systems, taking the total to 19.
The first ever What Car? Van Awards has taken a comprehensive approach to evaluating the very best Light Commercial Vehicles available today, reviewing all van classes (Compact Van, Small Van, Medium Van, Large Van and Electric Van). A team of expert judges has tested and reviewed all the models over the past year, looking at a host of features including running costs, drivability, comfort and technology advances.
