‘Cone free Christmas’ supported by leading recovery team

Start Rescue, Britain’s best value breakdown and roadside recovery service, believes that a ‘cone free Christmas’ is excellent news for motorists. National Highways has just announced that over 900 miles of roadworks will be removed before the main get-away and this means that 98 per cent of motorways and A-roads will be completely clear until 3 January.

“Losing the cones is a very welcome decision,” comments Start Rescue Managing Director Lee Puffett.

“Christmas is an immensely busy time on the roads and this year it seems to be coinciding with some extremely challenging weather which results in more vehicle breakdowns. By removing nearly all roadworks over the festive season it means recovery professionals can get to a stranded customer much quicker and the actual recovery itself should be altogether more straightforward as well.”

The current cold spell has seen a significant spike in requests from motorists. Start Rescue’s own data showed that Monday 12 December saw a 107 percent leap in demand against the average of all days dating back to 10 October. Meanwhile, during the period of 8-14 December there was a 38 per cent increase in call-outs compared to the preceding seven days.

Battery and tyre faults contributed to the surge and the challenging driving conditions also meant that there was a 56 percent leap in the number of reported accidents compared to data gathered over the previous nine-week period.

“As we all know Christmas comes with travel challenges, but removing the roadworks this year represents good news for motorists and the recovery professionals who are there to support them.”

Start Rescue has a 4.5-star rating on Trust Pilot, a five-star Defaqto* rating and recently achieved Which? Recommended Provider status for the fourth year running. Start Rescue also has a 97% recommendation rate from customers helped at the roadside.

Launched in 2009, Start Rescue is an integral part of the nation’s fourth largest breakdown and recovery service, Call Assist, which now has more than two million UK customers.
