EST scheme brings fleets and local authorities together

The Energy Saving Trust (EST) has launched a new scheme to bring local authorities and businesses together to try and create clarity over clean air zone projects.

Using four regional consultants as part of its Local Government Support Programme, the EST will be talking to local authorities about their plans and bringing fleets in on the discussion too, to try and bring some consensus to plans and try to form a clearer nationwide strategy.

“Things are in flux,” the EST’s senior account manager for programmes, Tim Anderson, said at the ALD Automotive Clean Air Zone Conference in Bristol. “And it goes beyond the big six cities and their plans.

“For fleets, there will be issues about whether their vehicles are compliant, although I think for the most part they will be.

“The key thing will be about replacement cycles and where certain vehicles are deployed.

“It’s a new programme, with team of people working directly with local authorities and cities. What that will do is enable us to join all of the dots with the other things that we do around advice on taxis, charging infrastructure, drive behaviour and fleet.”
