Following the announcement earlier this evening that the four UK nations have agreed five days of partially relaxed rules for Christmas*, Edmund King, AA president, said: “Two fifths (40%**) of drivers who had already cancelled festive travel plans may have been wary of risk to their loved ones – or perhaps secretly happy to avoid a visit to the in-laws.
“However, any announcement offering festive freedom will complicate trip planning. The question will be ‘should I stay or should I go?’ as families weigh up Christmas over Covid.
“The 28% who felt it’s even more important to share the season with friends and family this year, are likely to embrace the ‘gift’ of a restriction lift.
“For anyone hitting the road for a festive reunion, pre-journey planning will be crucial. Taking the time to plot your route and carry out essential car checks will help ensure a trouble-free trip***.”
