The shortage of diesel and petrol at the pumps over the last couple of weeks has sent car travel in the UK to levels as low as 86% of the pre-pandemic normal, even Light goods vehicles and HGV travel has been down recently, HGV travel was down 2% compared to pre-pandemic levels. With millions of vehicles having to queue at petrol stations and the direct impact this has had on commerce the sooner supply issues are resolved the better for not only the economy but the welfare and peace of minds of drivers, hopefully the surge in interest in electric and plug-in vehicles will in the very near future at least remove the queues at petrol forecourts.
